CHAINLINK; Left, Said, Did | 25/05/2012 |

UHM introduces the short event CHAIN LINK; Left, Said, Did of UHM’s guest initiator Zoe Reddy.

CHAIN LINK; Left, Said, Did shows a series of photographs based on the CHAIN LINK project during the STATE-X New Forms festival, which took place in December 2011. The participating artists spent individually a day in the studio space of Creative department store HOOP, to respond in a chain to each other’s actions.

Curator of the State-X New Forms exhibition and initiator of the CHAIN LINK project, Zoe Reddy gives with CHAIN LINK; Left, Said, Did a binding form to the actions of the eight artists involved.

Inspired by the vanitas theme, the images are composed of both used and created matters and documentation of the actions that have occurred in the CHAIN LINK project space. During Hoogtij #29, the closing event of the exhibition, the public is invited to continue the chain project by shaping the composition of the seventh, unfinished still life. Both opening and closing events will include music performances.

Share-Your-Chair-Film-Night #3

Dante’s Inferno

Directed by Sean Merdith (USA, 2007, 77’, eg. NP).

Dante’s Inferno has been kicking around the cultural playground for over 700 years. But it has never before been interpreted with exquisitely hand-drawn paper puppets, brought to life using purely hand-made special effects. As Dante spirals through the nine circles of hell, he comes to understand the underworld’s merciless machinery of punishment, emerging a new man destined to change the course of his life. But not, of course, the brand of his beer.

The epic poem traces Dante’s imaginary journey through the various levels of the afterlife. Descending first into Hell in “Inferno”, Dante is guided by the ghost of the Roman poet Virgil. Along the way they meet historical personages and people from Dante’s hometown of Florence, witness the tortures and punishments of Hell, and discuss the universal and timeless themes of morality and justice.

Dante’s odyssey through the nine circles of hell is represented using hand-drawn paper puppets. The professional special effects mean you quickly forget about the materials used, however. Exciting and impressive, Dante’s Inferno is a great piece of film art.

MOURNING PAPERS 13/04/2012

UHM introduces the exhibition MOURNING PAPERS,
April the 13th, at 18h.

MOURNING PAPERS is a tribute to mourning and an exploration into its ambiguity.
The exhibition approaches the subject of mourning throughout its many forms; rough, hard, sad, beautiful, ridiculous, recurring and even seemingly boring. UHM asks the participating artists how to translate personal experiences into a universal artistic context.

In addition to the exhibition itself, UHM will initiate Mourners Anonymous – meetings.
During these M.A. meetings, the participating artists will open a dialog and discuss the different facets of mourning in personal and universal points of view. Philosopher Awee Prins will be present at the M.A. meetings and will give a lecture at the opening event on how to deal with death in the current time, he will also talk about his meetings with the artists.
As a result of the M.A. meetings the artists may reconsider decisions concerning their works and revise when necessary. The registration of the M.A. meetings will be a part of the exhibition and the MOURNING PAPERS publication.
